Union Structures and Democracy

This reading helps us to clearly see how the union leader and their members are structure and what roll they should or shouldn’t play. It also gives us a little background on how this was formed. For example, as stated in the article, workers form a “local and international” union. I believed this was divided bylaws to determine on whether who should be the “boss” and workers. And what wages and position should be given to whom. Unusually the union members get to select their officers because I think they are best known to be trusted and there is less power on who control who. Moreover, the AFL- CIO and the union members have similar relationship as that of the local and national unions. However I find it really terrible that if the union is making a mistake and the national wants to end a strike, they can’t because AFL cannot stop it from doing so.
